The camera from dev.33 swung around the spire as you walked, and the controls turned with it. dev.35 fixes that at the root. The ship now travels toward its bow, along the deck. One fixed view looks forward, slides with the captain and never turns. The bridge has been rearranged so every console faces the way you're going. Far from any star, the ship's spire lights the deck.
Two review builds in three days. A long crossing now ends in a review you read at your own pace. Talking to the crew happens on an internal videocom that shows whose move it is. And the camera has left your head: you now see the captain from fixed third-person views that turn to the sky when the ship is under way.
The ship has a crew. Five people now travel with you, each with a name, a role, a personality and a mind of their own about the work you ask of them. They live at the Voyage console, and on long legs they keep the ship running without you, until something needs the captain. This is in a review build (dev.28) and not yet merged.
Update, 15 October: the crew merged to main (PR #224), and dev.29 adds the Crew console with work cards.
The bubble ship now carries a population. Besides the featured crew, about a thousand people live aboard, and the simulation keeps track of them: their moods, their trust in the captain, their ages, the children born and the people who die. Whether children are born at all is a decision for the captain, and some people will not like it.
The ship's Archive was a library of entries. Now you can talk to it. Type a question at the Archive terminal and the ship's own mind answers, in its own voice, from its own records and the instruments around it. The title screen's first choice is now New game, and the terminal keeps a Voyage log of this voyage.
Callisto was a smooth grey ball because its surface map was missing. It now has its own crater mosaic, and nine other moons gain source imagery too. Dust impacts leave short curved marks across the bubble wall, the gas chart gains density shading, and the guided voyage reaches its distant highlights once each.
Two new videos show recent work in motion: a stable orbit around Sagittarius A* and the guided voyage arriving beside Saturn. Both are captures of the game, with the AILANG simulation supplying the motion, clocks and arrival state.
Clocks, speed and distance stay visible as you travel. Course plotting and journey commitments now live at the bridge consoles, while M opens a read-only star chart wherever you are.
The black-hole milestone is done: you can fly to the supermassive black hole at the centre of the Galaxy, hover above it and orbit it, with general relativity in the physics and in the picture.
Wherever you stop, the size of what you see now tells you how big it really is. Sol is back on the map, and you can hop between the bodies of a system yourself.
